These case studies are based on some popular, best-selling and classic children’s picture books. The copies in my home are well-loved, dog-eared and often, sellotaped back together, because they have been the star of many rainy afternoons and bedtimes, which I think is the highest compliment for all these books.
As you’ll see, although they have read many, many times in our home, they aren’t fully accessible to our visually impaired son (and in certain lights or when we’re really tired, not for us either).
With a few attainable tweaks, they could be. Making a picture book accessible doesn’t have to mean compromising in aesthetic quality or be costly and time consuming.
